Associations between current promotion of health behaviours and carer perceptions were explored through multivariate regression analysis in 2016. A majority of respondents promoted fruit and vegetable consumption (63.8%), physical activity (60.3%), quitting smoking (56.3%), and reducing alcohol consumption (56.2%) to the person they cared for. A perception that it was ‘very important’ to have a positive influence on these behaviours was positively related with promotion of each of the four behaviours, with those holding such a view being more likely to promote such behaviours, than those who did not (odds ratio: 9.47–24.13, p < 0.001). The majority (56.2%–63.8%) of carers reported promoting the health behaviours of those they cared for, demonstrating a need and opportunity to build the capacity of carers to contribute to reducing the health risk behaviours among people with a mental illness.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 16:25:44 AEST ]]> Effect of telephone follow-up on retention and balance in an alcohol intervention trial https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26221 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:11:20 AEST ]]> Systematic review and meta-analysis of the provision of preventive care for modifiable chronic disease risk behaviours by mental health services https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36589 Wed 10 Jun 2020 14:02:44 AEST ]]> Uptake of a preventive care consultation offered to clients of a community mental health service https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38150 Wed 04 Aug 2021 17:55:29 AEST ]]> Preventive care practices to address health behaviours among people living with mental health conditions: A survey of Community Managed Organisations https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43946 Tue 27 Jun 2023 14:00:00 AEST ]]> Characteristics of participants utilising a telephone-based coaching service for chronic disease health risk behaviours: a retrospective examination comparing those with and without a mental health condition https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38238 Tue 17 Aug 2021 09:38:54 AEST ]]> Multiple health behaviours and interest in change among people with a mental health condition: A brief report https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43121 Tue 13 Sep 2022 14:39:28 AEST ]]> Examining moderators of the effectiveness of a web-and video-based computer-tailored physical activity intervention https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38631 Thu 02 Dec 2021 13:45:24 AEDT ]]> Fundamental movement skills: where do girls fall short? Meta-analysis found interventions involving task shifting were effective in increasing smoking ‘advice’ (n = 2 RCTs; p = 0.009) and physical activity ‘advice’ (n = 2 RCTs; p = 0.002). Overall, meta-analysis and narrative synthesis indicated that effective intervention strategies (categorised according to the Effective Practice and Organisation of Care taxonomy) were: task shifting, educational meetings, health information systems, local consensus processes, authority and accountability, and reminders. The most consistent findings across studies were with regard to preventive care for smoking, while conflicting or limited evidence was found regarding other risk behaviours. While further rigorous research examining key risk behaviours is recommended, the findings may inform the selection of strategies for future interventions and service delivery initiatives.]]> Fri 07 Aug 2020 13:25:37 AEST ]]> Clustering of chronic disease risks among people accessing community mental health services https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51351 Fri 01 Sep 2023 13:36:25 AEST ]]>
